Better World Books: The Ethical Online Bookshop and Affiliate Network

I am a proud member of the Better World Books affiliate network – the ethical online bookshop. Please note that this post contains affiliate links.

Fund Literacy, Care for the EnvironmentIf you’ve been on Miscellany Pages recently, you’ll have noticed that I’ve switched my affiliate network from Amazon to Better World Books. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Amazon – I’ve always found it to provide good deals and quick service – but I decided to support a smaller company.

Not that Better World Books is particularly small. They have over 8 million books and ship worldwide for free! I stumbled across them through a quick online search for ‘ethical affiliate networks’ and knew straight away this was the company I wanted to promote.

Benefits for Customers

Here are just a few benefits of buying with Better World Books:

  • Eco-friendly.

Carbon neutral shipping is available! A number of books are also second-hand or ex-library stock. Finding them new homes saves books ending up in landfill.

  • Supports libraries.

Better World Books literacy grants help libraries and educational charities to carry out projects they would otherwise lack funding for.

  • Promotes literacy for those with disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Book for Book initiative means that for every book purchased on the website, one is donated to someone in need. Over 26 million have been donated so far! Find out more about the beneficial impact the company is having here.

  • Great deals!

From a completely selfish standpoint, there are obviously direct benefits for you too! There are deals and bargains every day – just have a look through the Bargain Bin.

  • Browsing experience.

As well as searching for a specific category, book or edition, I enjoy using the Explore function that allows you to browse meanderingly like a virtual bookshop experience.

  • Monetise your blog.

You can sign up the Better World Books Affiliate Network and earn 5-8% commission on purchases.

  • Simple application process.

Start the quick and simple application process using this link. It only took me a few minutes and I was approved within a couple of weeks.

  • Good karma.

It is so satisfying to monetise your blog while supporting a good cause at the same time!

  • Aesthetic.

There are a variety of bright, fun banners available for your blog. Exhibit A:

Buy Books. Do Good. Support Local Charities

NB: For the sake of transparency, this affiliate network is not quite as easy to use as Amazon. It operates via an intermediary called CJ Affiliate. However, Better World Books provide detailed step-by-step instructions and I followed these with no issues.

I am not (and I cannot stress this enough!) a tech-savvy person, so if I can do it you most certainly can. The little extra effort is 100% worth it to be able to promote a social enterprise I am genuinely passionate about.
