The City Girl Magazine aims to connect, inspire and empower women living in cities across the UK and abroad. I write about books and entertainment for the magazine (what else!?!) and thought I would share this post on my blog too.

As many of you already know, I work at my local public library, a job that I love just as much as I love writing. It was wonderful to combine these two sides of me for an article on Library Card Sign Up Month!

Do you use your local library? What’s your favourite thing about it? Let me know in the comments below – I’d love to hear from you!
Local libraries are in full swing to evolve to community hubs. Before they were like cathedrals reigned by respectful silence and people quietly moving through the isles of holy books. Now they´’re meeting points with free wifi access, a newspaper corner for the elderly with a coffee machine next to it and some tables where youngsters can eat their lunch sandwich, go to study together, … In fact I think that the multi media department is way more popular than the book department. And in the book department is the comics aisle the most popular section, followed by the travel books section (that know has been moved to the fantasy section).

Thank you for the thoughtful comment Shaharee! I agree that libraries have changed so much in recent years. The role of local libraries as community hubs is one of the main reasons I love working there! 📚❤️ X x x

I love libraries. I go for the books, not surprisingly. Especially during Covid, I also made liberal use of many on line resources. I read Library Journal every month! Libraries are great equalizers, another reason that I have deep admiration for them.

I’ve always loved libraries but unfortunately, my local one is a very small one with very limited resources. Also, as someone who has just started a master’s degree to become a librarian, this comes at a perfect time.

Congrats on your article Florence! Over the past year or so, I’m trying to see the other resources my own library has aside from borrowing books to feel more connected with the community! 🥰💖
