2021 has been quite the year! I graduated university, set up my own business as a freelance writer, and just generally entered the daunting world of adulthood. Books have been there through it all to provide a reassuring sense of constancy and plenty of opportunities to escape reality. So without further ado, in no particular order (because I am extremely indecisive!) here are my top 10 favourite books of 2021...

2019 has been a wonderfully busy, varied reading year. Both my English Literature course and feminist book club have pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to try something new. At the same time, the inspiring community of book bloggers continues to keep reading exciting - I can't wait to see what 2020 brings!

2018 has been the year I truly re-discovered my love of reading. It has been wonderful to immerse myself fully in the literary world: going to book club, attending my first author event and starting English Literature at university. Not to mention continuing to be part of the inspiring community of book bloggers!

I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with crime thrillers. Sometimes I can find them predictable, homogeneous and lacking any intrigue in their characters. However, nothing beats the feeling of stumbling upon ‘that’ crime thriller. The one with a stand-out story that has you breathlessly addicted – when you’re not reading it you’re talking about it, or thinking about it, until you can get back to those alluring pages. The crime junkies among you will, I’m sure, be familiar with this elusive feeling. Below is my chosen favourite crime thriller of all time, plus three honourable mentions, so you can experience that coveted high once more...
Now I am somewhat notorious for blubbing at films, but for some reason (perhaps because I tend to read in short bursts whenever I get a spare moment) it’s much harder for a book to make me shed genuine tears. So when I do weep wholeheartedly, it means the story really must be something special. This is what made it so difficult to choose a favourite book that made me cry - read on to find out the final choice and honourable mentions...
