2021 has been quite the year! I graduated university, set up my own business as a freelance writer, and just generally entered the daunting world of adulthood. Books have been there through it all to provide a reassuring sense of constancy and plenty of opportunities to escape reality. My Favourite…Crime Thriller
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with crime thrillers. Sometimes I can find them predictable, homogeneous and lacking any intrigue in their characters. However, nothing beats the feeling of stumbling upon ‘that’ crime thriller. The one with a stand-out story that has you breathlessly addicted – when you’re not reading it you’re talking about it, or thinking about it, until you can get back to those alluring pages. The crime junkies among you will, I’m sure, be familiar with this elusive feeling. Now I am somewhat notorious for blubbing at films, but for some reason (perhaps because I tend to read in short bursts whenever I get a spare moment) it’s much harder for a book to make me shed genuine tears. So when I do weep wholeheartedly, it means the story really must be something special.
