The Mystery Blogger Award

I was over the moon when the lovely Morrisa @ Morr Books nominated me for the Mystery Blogger Award!

If you don’t follow Morrisa’s blog already, please do go and take a look. It has an amazing variety of posts including reviews, discussions and author interviews, plus she always writes so passionately!

What is the Mystery Blogger Award?

The Mystery Blogger Award is an award for amazing bloggers with ingenious posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging; they do it with so much love and passion.

I think it is a wonderful idea to find out more about the bloggers whose posts we read every day. My answers are below:

3 Facts About Me

  1. I performed a pretty epic career change when I dropped out of my Veterinary Medicine course to study English Literature instead!
  2. Recently, I started working part-time at my local library alongside my studies and it’s my dream job!
  3. My favourite book quote is this gem from East of Eden by John Steinbeck:

“And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.”

John Steinbeck Quote

Fund Literacy, Care for the Environment

My Favourite Blog Post

Questioning the Canon: Harriet Beecher Stowe and Mary Prince

I am particularly proud of my Questioning the Canon series in which I hope to bring to light lesser-known books about a certain issue, which can be read alongside or instead of infamous ‘classics’.

Morrisa’s Questions

1. What is a book you’ve had on your shelf/kindle the longest but still haven’t read?

I’ve had Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz on my bookshelf for a very long time. I have seen great reviews and lots of people at my book club have recommended it, but my Crime Fiction module at uni has made me a bit murder-overload for a while!

2. How do you battle reading slumps?

With so much required reading, reading slumps can be particularly dangerous for me! So I try to overcome them by setting pages-per-day goals until the book (hopefully!) has me gripped.

3. What’s your favourite recipe that you like to make, or you like someone to make for you?

Chocolate orange munchkin cakes!

4. Hardcover, paperback, or e-book?

I read in all 3 formats (4 if you include audiobooks) but I’m going to go with hardbacks because they look so pretty on the bookshelf!

5. If you could only read one genre (fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary, historical, non-fiction, etc) for the rest of your life, which would you choose?

Literary fiction because it’s one of my favourite genres and there’s so much variety within it that I wouldn’t get bored.

My Questions

  1. What is the best book you’ve received as a gift?
  2. Do you reread, and if so which book was your latest reread?
  3. Tell us your favourite book quote.
  4. Which were your favourite subjects at school?
  5. As you know, if books are my first love, animals are a close second, so do you have any pets? Please feel free to share some cute photos!!!

Thank you again for the tag Morissa! I really enjoyed reading your answers and joining in myself. I’m looking forward to finding out more about other bloggers!

  2. Oh, thank you so much for the tag and the kind words! ❤ I used to be a big paperback lover (I think because it was just so cheap), but even though I do read all four formats like you said, I definitely find myself a hardcover person as well because they do look so good on the shelf. I haven't tried setting pages by day goals, and I think that might help to regulate my reading more. I will go days without sometimes and trying to get inot something more regular could definitely help combat the slump. Definitely going to have to try it. Fantastic post, and thanks again! 🙂

    1. You’re very welcome Mandy, I love your blog so you completely deserve the nomination! And I’m glad the page per day goals idea is helpful! I find it useful when I have to read a book I’m not particularly enjoying e.g. for required reading, but it works well for those books that can take a while to get into as well X x x

      1. Thank you so much. ❤ ❤ I love reading your blog as well. And omg yes. I'm facing that struggle right now. I am currently reading a lackluster book, and I've just set it aside instead of trying to keep going with. I'm totally going to try to adopt the page setting for to make my way through it.
